Good deeds, Good People, Awesome outcome

A portion of the proceeds for the items below will go to the “Bill Brand Environmental Scholarship Fund” established by the South Bay Parkland Conservancy, a 501c(3).

This non-profit was started by Mayor Brand over 20 years ago. Some of the profits will cover expenses such as event permits, flowers, etc. Supporting this event is greatly appreciated and we hope to get a large gathering!

In honor of the late Mayor Bill Brand, this paddle out will start an education scholarship fund at South Bay Parkland Conservancy.

Meeting Location

We are starting check in at 9:30 am. The event starts at 11:00 am. Parking is limited, board drop-off will be at the grassy knoll.  Please arrive early, drop off your board and proceed to parking. See below for parking locations.

Please arrive early! Follow the directions below to drop off your board, then head out to park in one of the adjoining metered parking lots. We want this to go as smoothly as possible and start on time at 11:00 am.

Paddle Out Timeline

9:30 Check-in & Board Drop-off begins

Because we know parking is limited, space is limited and we value your time, we will have board drop-off drop off and leis pickup start at 9:30 am. We are expecting a good sized crowd and are planning for great weather. Come early to chat and connect with everyone, have a cup of coffee, or join Councilmember Nehrenheim’s community meeting at, from 9:30 am to 10:30 at the Veterans Park Senior Center.

11:00 Safety briefing

Safety is no an accident. We want everyone to be safe, on the same page and ensure that everyone knows the plan. We will start with a safety briefing, brief invocation and a few words to get the paddlers motivated. Group photo? You bet! Be sure to get a shirt or hat and show your memorial love!

11:15 Start Paddle Out

Our plan is to grab our boards, walk down to the water, and paddle out. The paddle is about 300 yards out, which should take about 10 minutes. Need help? No worries, we will have plenty of help out there. Remember: the bigger the board, the more flotation, the easier to paddle!

11:30 Paddle Out event

Our ceremony with the Outriggers, Boats, Paddlers will start at approximately 11:30 in the water. We expect to be out in the water for about 20-30 minutes. Be sure to bring your sunscreen!

12:00 paddle out ends, returns to shore

After we are done, we head back to shore. the same location that you dropped your board off will be the same location that you can drop your board and grab your car. Or, leave your board, do the picnic in the park and come back for your board later.

12:00 - 3:00 Picnic in the Park

Picnic in the park! Everyone is welcome for a few hours to enjoy a few relaxing hours in the park. Even if you didn’t participate in the paddle, come to the park and connect with everyone!

Grab some food from the Pier restaurants and lets break some bread in the park, talk about the many memories of the many, many years of community service we have been involved in.
